Inspired by the sight and sounds of nearby shores, the houses in Waterside Cottages share more than just a coastal location. They share a unique decorating philosophy — comfort.
From a tropical refuge in Key West, Florida, to an exuberant artist’s hideout on Little Diamond Island, Maine, a tiny fairytale cottage in Fairhaven, Massachusetts to an environmentalist’s beach bungalow in on Carmel Point, California, they feature an array of delightfully diverse styles.
The houses featured differ greatly in their decorating schemes, yet all have the ability to instantly transport you to the water’s edge. Some are centuries old and others built recently. A few boast vibrant Caribbean colors or nautical hues, while others rely on an all-white palette for a sense of serenity. Some feature rooms filled with coastal keepsakes and accumulated treasures; others celebrate simplicity.
Whether primary residence, artist’s studio or weekend retreat, all provide their owners and guests a place to enjoy time together, chill out and feel sheltered. After looking at the photos, you’ll no doubt realize that with a coherent vision for using colors, furnishings and accessories, any dwelling — even one located miles from shoreline — can become a cozy waterside home.
